Ruta 94, the Only Possible Way

Heart-rending film about a hidden issue in Latin America: gender-based violence.
Margarita Guillé is in the middle of shooting a heart-rending film about violence against women in Latin America. The feature-length documentary strikes down the unjust claim that “what´s not visible, doesn´t exist.” Ruta 94, the Only Possible Way makes all too clear the issue of gender-based crime, which is a serious issue in several regions of Latin America and often goes unreported. Violence against women unquestionably does not get the attention that it deserves in Latin America, even though the situation is even direr than in other areas of the world, with seven out of every ten women suffering rape, extortion, slavery, sexual exploitation, or murder. At the 3rd World Conference of Women’s Shelters participants will get an exclusive preview of the documentary Ruta 94.
In Latin America, seven out of every ten women have suffered rape, extortion, slavery, sexual exploitation, or murder. Armed conflict, systematic crime and permanent corruption on the continent are factors that seriously affect women and girls in at risk situations. In order to be able to get out of this situation, they must know their rights and bring out their inherent resilience.
By raising awareness, Ruta 94 aims to shed light on the way thousands of women who have to confront violence can or should get out of this situation. The context of this violence is as diverse as transnational organised crime, armed conflict and migration. The film shows all this in harsh detail against a backdrop of political instability and social indifference. The documentary is an opportunity to bring about a real change. If you wish, you can support the Ruta 94 project through Crowdfunding.
Margarita Guillé Tamayo will join the 3rd World Conference of Women’s Shelters. She is an activist and founder of ITA Boutique Social. For the past twenty years, the organisation has been supporting, training and defending Mexican women from all social classes against gender-based violence.
